GET THE GIRLS OUT WITH SHEJUMPS.ORG
"If she can do it, so can I."
This is the source of motivation that SheJumps hopes to inspire in girls around the country. SheJumps is a non-profit bringing together women and girls of all backgrounds and ages who help one another reach their highest potential through outdoor adventures and education.
Founder, Claire Smallwood, is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon who now lives in the outdoor adventure wonderland of Utah. She teamed up with photographer, Lynsey Dyer, and journalist, Vanessa Pierce, who were profiling unsung heroines of the outdoors on a blog.
They saw that not all girls were lucky enough to have someone taking them skiing, biking, fishing, or climbing - and that women were often alone in a group of guys when going out for outdoor activities. They believed that pursuing outdoor activities in a supportive environment could really encourage self-confidence, helping girls become more likely to speak their minds, ask questions, and pipe up when something doesn’t feel right.
SheJumps hosts camps and educational programs to teach basic, technical skills that help women feel more self-sufficient. Workshops include bike maintenance clinics, fly fishing, wilderness first aid, avalanche education, rock climbing, and more. They also offer fun “Get the Girls Out” days around the country.
