Where's My Bag: Kona, Hawaii
Our "Where's My Bag" series features Clark & Mayfield laptop bags and their owners in different parts of the world. In this edition, Michelle C. of IntentionalTravelers.com is traveling with her Reed laptop handbag in copper brown.
Kona, Big Island of Hawaii
The largest of Hawaii's chain of islands is known as The Big Island. This island is unique for its diversity of landscape, from volcano to beach, dry lava fields to hilly pastureland to lush jungle. On the West you can fly into the town of Kailua-Kona. In fact, the entire West side of the island is referred to as "the Kona side."
Kona is known for producing delicious coffee as well as macadamia nuts. You can sample them right on a plantation, at weekly farmer's markets, or from the grocery store.
Other popular attractions on the island are, of course, beaches. Kona has both white side and black sand beaches as well as long stretches of coast line with pebbles or lava rock. Body boarding, Stand Up Paddleboarding, surfing, and kayaking are just a few of the water sports you can enjoy.
Kailua Village in town offers a variety of restaurants, shops, and a few historic sites to explore.
Be sure to check out Aloha Shave Ice for refreshing treats made with organic, homemade and local ingredients.
Why We Went
After our honeymoon in Kona almost 12 years ago, this was the first time we've been back to the Big Island! It was another cause for celebration: my parent's 40th wedding anniversary. So we got the whole family at a house together to enjoy a week vacation.
