Jardin, Colombia

Colombia is a beautiful country in South America with a vibrant culture, lush mountains, coffee farms, and tropical beaches to explore. The country has worked hard to overcome its corrupt and violent past, building a new reputation on innovation, hospitality, and natural wonders.

Jardin, Colombia is a pueblo patrimonio (designated heritage town) that has become a popular weekend trip from Medellin. Among the colorful little town’s many attractive qualities is its stunning setting in lush green mountains. Coupled with the mild climate of the Antioquia region, Jardin is perfect for outdoors adventures like hiking. (See our two favorite Jardin hikes here.)

The heart of Jardin is its main square, a vibrant gathering place graced by a cathedral and surrounded by cafes, bars, and restaurants in bright colored hues. One of our favorite places to grab coffee and a pastry was Cafe Macanas. Tasty treats and creative, uplifting atmosphere make this a must stop when visiting Jardin.

Why We Went

This was our second trip to Colombia. We spent October in Medellin, where we worked with the 7in7 Conference for digital nomads (of which, Clark & Mayfield was a sponsor). We rented an apartment on Airbnb in the city for the month, but we also wanted to visit some smaller towns. So the last two weeks of our stay we spent in Jardin and Jerico, Colombia, which are both about a 3.5 hour bus ride into the mountains.

It was a nice change of pace, and we’d love to explore more of Colombia’s small heritage towns in the future.
